September 19th Work Day

Come join the Hoosier Hikers Council for a trail work day on Saturday, September 19th! We’re going to work on the new trail at Cagles Mill Lake, an Army Corps of Engineers property near Cloverdale, Indiana. This two-plus mile trail will wind through rugged terrain with scenic rock ledges and many impressive, large trees.

Please RSVP to hoosierhikerscouncil@gmail.com to let us know that you’re coming. Due to safety concerns, the HHC will not be providing lunch until further notice. Also note that the Army Corps office will not be available to us.

To keep volunteers safe we require that all attendees:
– Always stay at least 6 ft apart
– Except for brief encounters, work to stay at least 20 ft apart while working
– Have a mask handy that is worn, at a minimum, when close and/or talking to others
– Don’t share tools
– Bring your own gloves
– Bring your own lunch and water
– If you have been in contact with an infected person or have any symptoms, please stay home

Directions to Cagles Mill Lake Dam:

The dam road is now open again!

Start from the intersection of US 231 and SR 42, on the south side of Cloverdale. Take SR 42 west past the town of Cunot, where SR 42 intersects SR 243. Continue on SR 42 and cross a bridge over the lake, going on a long uphill. After the hill and several curves, including a tight S curve, continue a short distance and turn right on Fertig Road. There will be a sign for the dam that directs you to turn right at Fertig Road. You will pass a big cemetery, the road will curve to the left, and it will T-intersect with CR 830 W. Turn right (north) on CR 830 W. Continue on this road all the way to the dam. Cross over the dam, and, after you pass the control tower, continue up a small hill to the USACE Office on the right. From Cloverdale, it will take about 30 minutes to reach the dam.

If the weather looks iffy, check the HHC Facebook page and the HHC website for a cancellation notice. We’ll post the notice by 5:00 am on the work day.
