On Saturday, August 21st, the Hoosier Hikers Council will be back at The Nature Conservancy’s Green’s Bluff Nature Preserve, south of McCormick’s Creek State Park in Owen County. We are reconstructing the popular trail that showcases the bluffs overlooking Raccoon Creek. We’re going to be building a new route from the creek back up to ridge. Volunteer lunches are back! Please RSVP to hoosierhikerscouncil@gmail.com to let us know that you’re coming so we can plan enough lunch for all the workers. Please be aware that we unfortunately don’t have the resources to accommodate special dietary needs such as vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.
To get to Green’s Bluff, take State Road 43 south from its intersection with State Road 46 near McCormick’s Creek SP or north from Whitehall near Bloomington to Sherfield Road. Turn west on Sherfield and continue to the T at Heddings Road/County Road 75 E where you will turn left. Keep bearing left down this gravel road until you reach the parking area near a cemetery. We’ll meet at 9 am on Saturday, August 21st, at the Green’s Bluff trail head, and we’ll work until 3 pm with a break for lunch. Please bring water and work gloves; the HHC will provide tools, training, and lunch.
If the weather looks iffy, check the HHC Facebook page and the HHC website for a cancellation notice. We’ll post the notice by 5:00 am on the work day.
