The courses follow mostly single-track forest trails, and have long, level stretches with some steep hills that are tempered by switchbacks. Trails are flagged at frequent intervals with bright ribbon, and are cleared before the race to ensure they are mostly free of natural debris. Aid stations along the courses offer drinks every 2 to 3 miles. Amateur radio operators are stationed at each Aid Station and along other points on the course.
Course maps and elevation profiles: Note the distances shown on the profile maps are approximate and do not match the distances of the course.
Note about course distances: Many of our past runners have noticed that the distances given for our courses are approximations, and that they change slightly from year to year. The course distances are a composite of gps data collected by us and by participants in our events, and as you know, gps measurements can be affected by factors such as sharp switchbacks, dense tree canopy, and deep ravines. Also, sections of the trails are relocated occasionally to accommodate forest management activities.
