October’s third Saturday work day will be back at Eagle’s Crest Nature Preserve on the west side of Eagle Creek Park. The DNR Division of Nature Preserves and Indy Parks have asked the HHC to build a loop trail which highlights the rugged beauty of this nature preserve on the northwest side of Indianapolis. We’ll build a 1.5 mile trail that features high bluffs with broad views over Eagle Creek Reservoir and offers glimpses of old growth forest which is so well preserved that it appears much as it did before the arrival of pioneer settlers.
We’ll meet at 9:00 am at the soccer field parking area along the road to the Eagle’s Crest cabin. As usual we’ll work until about 3:00 pm, rain or shine, with a break for lunch at noon. Bring gloves and water. HHC will provide other tools and lunch.
It would be helpful if you can R.S.V.P., even if to state your plans are uncertain. Not sure if you’ll make it until the last minute? We’ll be happy to have you join us anyway! Reply to hoosierhikerscouncil@gmail.com to let us know if you’re coming.
Here’s a link to a Google map of the Eagle’s Crest parking lot where we’ll meet on Saturday:
I live NE of Indy and have a morning appt. on Saturday, Oct. 19. I would love to join you if possible. Any ideas on how I can connect with you (find you) between 10:30 and 11:00 Saturday? I am not that familiar with Eagle Creek Park. I have only hiked it once.
Thanks a lot.
Vicki, how about if you come for lunch and work with us afterward? It would be difficult to describe our work location, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. We’ll return to the parking for lunch at noon. See you there!
The forecast is calling for rain all day tomorrow 100% chance. Are there any cancellation plans?
