December 18th Third Saturday Work Day

Come join the Hoosier Hikers Council for a Third Saturday trail work day on December 18th! We’re continuing our project at the Big Walnut Nature Preserve in Putnam County where we’re rerouting a section of the Tall Timbers Trail to highlight ravines and overlooks of Big Walnut Creek. For more information about the project, please see:

Please RSVP to to let us know that you’re coming so we can plan enough lunch for all the workers. Please be aware that we unfortunately don’t have the resources to accommodate special dietary needs such as vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.

Big Walnut is located north of Bainbridge in Putnam County. From Indianapolis, take I-74 west to Lizton then go south on SR 39 to W CR 500 N. Go west on W CR 500 N to SR 75, then go south on SR 75 to W CR 200 N (in Hendricks County)/E CR 900 S (in Putnam County). Continue west on this road all the way past New Maysville where it will turn north and cross Big Walnut Creek on a covered bridge and become N CR 475 E. Continue past the covered bridge and you will see the parking area on your left. From Bloomington, take SR 46 west to US 231 in Spencer. Go north on US 231 to US 36. Go east on US 36 to Bainbridge and turn north on N Washington St/N CR 200 E. Continue on this road as it curves east then north again past North Putnam High School and Middle School. Then turn east on E CR 950 N. Follow this road as it turns back south and you will see the parking lot on your right (sorry, no covered bridge for you!).

We’ll meet at 9 am on Saturday, December 18th at the Big Walnut parking lot, and we’ll work until 3 pm with a break for lunch. Please bring water and gloves. The HHC will provide tools, training, and lunch.
