The Hoosier Hikers Council is planning a couple of work days at Beck’s Mill on next Sunday and Monday, August 25th – 26th. The Friends of Beck’s Mill are hosting a 10k run/walk on September 14th, and they’ve asked us to spruce up their trails in preparation for the event. Beck’s Mill is located about five miles south west of Salem. You would go about a mile south of Salem’s square on SR 135 to Beck’s Mill Rd, which will be just over a rise on the right. Then stay on that road all the way to the mill, which will be on the right side of the road. The parking lot is across the road from the mill, and we’ll meet there at 10:00 am on both days.

We’ll work until 3 or 4 on Sunday, camp Sunday night near the parking lot, and work on Monday from 10 to 3 or so. The Friends of Beck’s Mill will provide coffee and donuts for us Sunday morning and pizza after work, so you should bring a light lunch and water for each day.
We’ve built about three miles of trails there over the years, and our project will be to perform general maintenance to keep them pleasant to walk on. This includes clipping branches, cutting weeds, and digging tread where necessary. You could bring clippers, loppers, or a small hand saw, but we will also have tools you can use.
As mentioned above, the Friends of Beck’s Mill will provide food for us on Sunday, so please let us know if you’re coming so we can tell them how many people to expect.
Also, if anyone is interested and available on September 14th, the Friends of Beck’s Mill are looking for a couple of volunteers to help with their 10k run, The Grind. If you can help, send a note to email@example.com.
