HHC TRAIL DAYS

Trail Building: 3rd Saturdays

This Saturday, December 17, the Hoosier Hikers Council will have our monthly third Saturday trail work day at The Nature Conservancy's Hitz-Rhodehamel nature preserve in Brown County. TNC has a loop trail at this property, but the route currently goes outside the preserve's boundaries. We have flagged a reroute that will put the trail back inside the boundaries and provide a more pleasant hiking experience. The work this Saturday will involve clipping, clearing and benching.

Since parking is limited at the preserve, we will meet at 9:00 am at Brownie's Bean Blossom Family Restaurant on SR 135 just north of Bean Blossom and carpool to the work site. Brownie's serves a tasty breakfast, so you might want to get there early!

The Hitz-Rhodehamel Nature Preserve is located on Freeman Ridge Road. To get there, go south from Bean Blossom on SR 135 to Greasy Creek Road, which will be at the top of a hill on the south/left side of the road. Make an immediate left from Greasy Creek Road onto Freeman Ridge Road and drive approximately one mile to the preserve. There's a sign on the south side of the road and a small parking area on the north side. Bring a light lunch, water, and gloves; we'll provide tools.

In appreciation of our volunteer workers, the HHC will serve a special lunch treat at the work site! Please reply to pwbanta@gmail.com if you plan to be at this month's work day so we can be sure to have enough goodies for everyone! Not sure if you'll make it? We'll be happy to have you join us even if you don't reply.

RE : ADOPTING a BCSP or Tecumseh Trail section: Maybe you don't have time, or Saturdays, to help with trail work. Adopting a trail is another way to aid in the HHC's mission-a very essential one-but suit your schedule! Just contact the HHC for information and training.
